Event Follow-up

SouthGate’s Women’s Ministry sponsored a “Girls Time Out” event at the home of Tina Rose in Superior and it couldn’t have been a more beautiful day! We had fun give-aways and trivia. Pastor Arnie brought a message titled “God’s future Plan for You”…God wants us to get out of our comfort zone and throw our nets to the other side. See what God can do!

This was Pastor Arnie’s final event after serving for over thirty years as SouthGate’s Women’s Pastor. Thank you Pastor Arnie for the invaluable contribution you have made to the spiritual well-being of the women of our church during that time!

The big news of the day came when Pastor Arnie announced that Jeri Lynn Cunningham would become the new leader of the women’s ministry after the first of the year! AWESOME! We all prayed over her for this big step of faith.

The session concluded with a wonderful lunch sitting on the patio soaking in the sunshine and breeze of another day in God’s presence. What an amazing day of meaningful ministry and rich fellowship! We were so blessed to have you with us!

Men’s Ministry Retreat 2017 Follow-up

Men’s Ministry Retreat 2017

Men's Retreat 2017

Our Men’s Retreat 2017 took place from Feb. 27th-29th at the beautiful Lake Pleasant Desert Outdoor Center. We had 20 men who attended. It was awesome to see everyone taking advantage of the opportunity to hang out together, engage in the planned activities and benefit from the excellent teaching of Roger King.

There was a lot of fun to be had participating in the 2 man corn hole toss tourney organized by Dave Huss and the late night Poker tourney organized by Gary Graham as well as a little chess play and some other board game gamesmanship.

Roger’s theme for the weekend came from King David’s charge to his son Solomon in 1 Kings 2:2-3 as he neared his death: “So be strong and, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires…” Roger asked the question “What does it mean to be a man of God?” and set out to explore that question over the course of the weekend.

Some of the important points Roger made were:

  • Godly men have the courage to face their challenges. Men who run from their challenges often find that their means of escape become their prisons.
  • Godly men are men of prayer. The devil may attempt to hinder your prayers (Daniel ch. 10) but he can’t stop your prayers. Only you can stop you from praying.
  • As men of God we are to take every thought captive to Christ. We do this by speaking the word of God:
“Your mind will always stop to hear what your mouth is saying.”
  • Godly men recognize and stay away from things that are a trap for them.”
  • Opportunities (good and bad) test character.
  • Your faith has to be bigger than your situation.
  • The Hebrew word for “soul” is the word “nephish” which means “to rub off on”. The more we spend time with Jesus, the more His person or character will rub off on us.
  • Christs” power at work in us is not so much to enable us “to do” as it is to enable us “to be”. It’s about developing godly character.
Jesus’ strength came from His character and our character determines who we are.

Roger wrapped things up Sun morning by drawing from 1 Thess. 5:24 & Phillip 1:6 in making the point that God is faithful and will complete the work that He has begun in each one of us.

Very AWESOME time together. Thanks to everyone who made the effort to be there! Special thanks to the guys who helped out with the meals (Troy, Josh…) and the clean up duty!

THANK YOU, ROGER, for all the wisdom and encouragement! It was great getting to know you up close and personal!

Give Online

Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:7)

Throughout Scripture, we are reminded of the importance of giving back a portion of what God has so generously provided. His Word tells us that giving is an act of worship that should be done with a spirit of thanksgiving.

Technology has given us new ways of giving, and many of you have expressed an interest in online giving. We are now able to offer you this tool to assist in your giving. We know this is not for everyone. Yet, because this option serves many people here at SouthGate Church we are making it available.

It’s easy. You don’t have to worry about bringing your checkbook and finding a pen or having the cash on hand when you come to service.

It’s simple. Just fill out the online giving form. You are able to manage your own giving history. You will need to set up a user account the first time you give.

It’s safe. The information you submit is securely encrypted and will only be used to fulfill your selected financial transaction.

A word of caution: Online giving is being provided as a convenience for you, allowing you to give by way of ACH (funds taken directly out of your bank account/less costly to the church), debit or credit card account. However, SouthGate Church does not encourage anyone to enter into debt to give or fulfill a pledge. If you use a credit card, make sure you are able to pay off your credit card bill when it comes due.

How to Create a New Online Giving Account with Churchteams:

  1. Log on to Churchteams
  2. Enter amount you wish you give
  3. Enter your name
  4. Enter your email
  5. Choose the fund designation
  6. Choose one time or recurring gift
  7. Choose bank or credit/debit card
  8. Enter banking or card information
  9. Click “Give”
However you choose to contribute to the ongoing ministry of SouthGate Church, please know that your gift will be greatly appreciated!

SouthGate’s Youth Ministry

SouthGate’s Youth group meets from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday night. They are dedicated to improving the lives of our youth through the power of Jesus Christ and the truth of God’s Word.

Our Mission: To reach our friends and the youth of our community.

Our Vision: Real people, serving a Real God, meeting Real needs in a Real way.

Our Youth Ministry is committed to teaching young people the truth about life’s situations. We understand that our world is seeking fulfillment and hope via gangs, sex, and drugs, and we realize that Jesus Christ is the only real way to receive true fulfillment and hope in life. Our responsibility to the community around us is taken very seriously and we know that God will use SouthGate Youth as an instrumental tool in reaching the South Mountain area youth for Jesus.

The youth at SouthGate Church are an integral part of our congregation and we believe that they are truly the leaders of tomorrow serving in the church of today.

We invite you to come and visit our Wednesday night youth service and experience the fun and excitement that is present when young people come together to seek God. Our goal as a youth ministry is to put aside the religious aspect of church and enter into a personal and meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ.

Jesus was a teenager once too!

You are invited to be a apart of our youth group if you are between 7th and 12th Grade!
